What is Ruined King: A League of Legends Story about?

Today Riot Games has released the official trailer of Ruined King: A League of Legends Story. The video depicts a group of champions: Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Yasuo, Ahri and Pyke randomly fighting  humans and monsters in Bilgewater, although the trailer is very exciting and it leaves you wanting to know more, it does not really informs on what the game is about.

What is Ruined King: A League of Legends Story about?

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is a single-player story-driven turn-based RPG developed by Airship Syndicate, you could think of the League of Legends version of Final Fantasy. However, expect a unique art-style and at least some degree of innovation in the turn-based RPG genre. The story is going to be situated in Bilgewater and Shadow Isles, the main villain is, you guessed it, the Ruined King. The champions are Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Yasuo, Ahri and Pyke.

When is Ruined King: A League of Legends Story going to be released?

Airship Syndicate: The company behind Ruined King

Riot Games themselves are not developing the game, but throughout Riot Forge, they fund and help other companies to develop games featuring the League of Legends story. In this case, they choose Airship Syndicate, a video game company based in Austin, Texas. Famous for Battle Chasers: Nightwar (turn-based RPG) and Darksiders Genesis (hack and slash action RPG). The aforementioned turn-based RPG is likely a taste of what Ruined King is going to be.

Battle Chasers: Nightwar, the predecessor of the Ruined King

Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a turn-based RPG that was released in 2017. The players explore the map in a linear fashion, fighting enemies at set instances and dungeons. The game was well received by both critics and users, averaging a 80/100 Metascore and 8.0/10 User score.

Nightwar's characters look a lot like League of Legends champions. For instance, Garrison and Darius might as well be brothers.

This goes to show that when it comes to art, Airship Syndicate is very compatible with Riot Games.

Having done great games before and all the Riot funding/help now we can only expect the new game to be great.
